I admit to having a bit of an obsession with William “Fatty” Foulke, goalkeeper for Sheffield United, Chelsea and Bradford City at the start of the twentieth century. One of my favourite Foulke stories, (and there are quite a few…), happened just after the first match in the 1902 Cup Final, when Foulke was arguing with officials that Southampton’s equalising goal should not have been allowed. Foulke left his dressing room butt naked and chased after the referee, Tom Kirkham, who hid in a broom cupboard.
