Wojciech Szczesny urged to prove himself

November 21st, 2012

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been told that he has to prove he is the number one at the Emirates Stadium by manager Arsene Wenger.

The Poland international made his return to the first-team in the 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur after sustaining ankle and rib injuries that kept him on the sidelines.

Despite the ongoing injury problems, Wenger insisted that Szczesny has always been his number one choice, but praised stand-in Vito Mannone for the way he performed in the 22-year-old’s absence. Wenger described Szczesny as a “top keeper” and urged him to prove himself as the Gunners’ first-choice.

“Mannone has done very well, he deserves a…

Wojciech Szczesny back for Spurs clash

November 15th, 2012

Reports in the media suggest that Wojciech Szczesny is to be restored to the Arsenal starting line-up for the north London derby on Saturday.

The Polish international is back to full fitness after two months on the sidelines and is thought to be ready to take over from stand-in Vito Mannone.

The return of Szczesny is a huge boost for Arsene Wenger, who has been sure not to rush his first-choice goalkeeper back into action for fear of another long-term injury lay-off.

The 22-year-old has only played in two games for the Gunners this season due to rib and ankle injuries and has not featured since 15 September.

He returned…

It has been reported that Wojciech Szczesny could be in line for a return to Arsenal’s first-team against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Poland international has been wearing a protective boot during his recovery, but has now been given the all-clear to start playing again. Arsene Wenger: ‘Wojciech Szczesny is Arsenal’s first choice’

September 17th, 2012

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given Wojciech Szczesny a major vote of confidence by insisting that he is still The Gunners’ first choice goalkeeper.

Recent weeks have seen the Poland international’s position come under threat after a period out of the team through injury and the impressive performances from his understudy Vito Mannone.

Szczesny made his first team comeback this weekend in the 6-1 win over Premier League new boys Southampton. Despite Arsenal running riot, the shot-stopper had a poor game, dropping a cross to allow The Saints to score their only goal. Wenger, however, has backed the 22-year-old, claiming that he needs to be given the confidence…

April 20th, 2012

Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that he is frustrated by Arsenal’s lack of trophies this season, though he admitted that he is pleased with his personal performances this season.

The 22-year-old has established himself as the club’s number one this term, putting in a series of impressive performances throughout the season.

The Poland shot-stopper claimed the lack of trophies to be a “big disappointment”.

“I would’ve been more satisfied if we had won any trophies,” he told the club’s official website.

“My goal at the beginning of the season was to win trophies for this club and I haven’t won any, so that’s always a big disappointment.

“But it’s my first full season in…

Wenger believes Szczesny can become one of the best

April 16th, 2012

Arsene Wenger believes Wojciech Szczesny has the talent to become one of the “top class” goalkeepers in Europe.

The 21-year-old, who has kept five clean sheets in his last seven matches, has impressed this season with some dominant performances for a goalkeeper of his age.

Now, ahead of tonight’s Premier League match against Wigan, Wenger has singled out Szczesny for praise, claiming that he can go as far as he wants in the game.

“The talent was always there but he is maturing quickly,” said the Arsenal boss.

“I like that he is a good communicator. You have to adjust, it’s important to find a balance.

“I wouldn’t like to say publicly what…
